Osteoporosis Treatment in Lucknow

Osteoporosis means a condition in which bones brittle and week. That means small stress can make fractures. Osteoporosis occurs mostly in the hips, spine, and wrist. It reduces the strength of bones which increases the risk of fracture. Bones become weak when the level of calcium, phosphorus, and other minerals decreases.

Osteoporosis is commonly seen in women but can also affect men. Women at the stage of post-menopause are having high risk in this. It is seen that osteoporosis is having a higher risk in white and Asian women. To maintain the strength of bone exercise is very important and the level of calcium and vitamin d.


Steroids can cause osteoporosis. Especially taken by mouth.steroids reduces the amount of calcium in bone. Women who have menopause especially before the age of 45 can cause osteoporosis and those who have removed both ovaries also can cause.

Lack of exercise also can cause osteoporosis. If we don’t have any exercise the calcium level of our body decreases and muscles become weak. Women who exercise more can stop periods and also have risk because the estrogen level decreases.

A poor diet can cause osteoporosis. if our diet doesn’t include enough calcium or we are underweight it increases the risk of osteoporosis.

Drinking so much Alcohol is also a reason for osteoporosis. Alcohol consumption can cause the breaking of a bone and as a result, calcium decreases.

Osteoporosis can be caused inherently. The people who have genetic disorders like osteogenesis can also suffer fractures.

LOWERED SEX HORMONES: when sex hormone levels decrease it leads to weakening of bones. At menopause, the decrease in estrogen levels in women is a high-risk factor for osteoporosis.

In men,when age passes the testosterone level gradually reduces and can cause osteoporosis.

LEVEL OF THYROID HORMONE: High level of thyroid hormone can cause osteoporosis. It should be controlled using tablets.

OTHER GLANDS: Overactive parathyroid and adrenal glands can also lead to osteoporosis.


Taking medications to increase bone density decreases the chance of osteoporosis. According to the fracture of a bone, it needs severe and indefinite treatment.

Proper diet plans which include minerals and calcium can reduce osteoporosis and can strengthen the bones. At increased risk of fracture the most commonly used medicine for men and women are:

  • Alendronate
  • Ibandronate
  • Zoledronic acid
  • Risedronate

Side effects like nausea, heartburn, and abdominal pain are seen in some persons. But if medicines are taken properly this can be avoided. Hormone-related therapy can maintain bone density. Therapy estrogen can help to reduce the risk of blood clots, breast cancer, heart disease, and endometrial cancer. Bone building medications are also there to reduce osteoporosis. Sometimes the doctor may suggest;

Teriparatide is a powerful drug to stimulate the growth of new bone.
Romosozumab is given as an injection to treat osteoporosis.
